REVIEW: SJW’s Always Double Down by Vox Day

It’s hard to believe that the first book in this series came out over two years ago. A lot of water has flowed under the bridge since then! But let me tell you, everything is here:

  • The election, who managed to predict it, and why
  • The recent kerfuffle in the NFL
  • Comics Gate and Alt*Hero
  • What really happened with the Hugos
  • Why Gamergate’s ride never ends
  • Codes of Conduct in Open Source Software

Basically, all the topics that have been most relentlessly memed over the past several months are here. It even touches on John Scalzi’s writers block blog post which recently lit up the science fiction and fantasy blog scene.

If you care about culture, then this is one of the most important books on the market right now. Once you get a few chapters in, I predict you’ll have a hard time putting it down. Not only do you get a take on these topics that you simply won’t find anywhere within the narrative apparatus, but there’s more. Sure you tend to keep your head down offline and you’re extremely careful about what you let drop around the water cooler. (The firing of James Damore at Google put us all on notice, no doubt.) But surveying these wide-ranging conflicts at this depth and density, it rapidly becomes apparent that something has happened.

The tide has turned. The wind is changing!

I know, there’s quite a bit of romance in playing the part of the noble loser. If you’re the sort that’s always had a yen to replay the role of the Spartans in some sort of modern day answer to the Battle of Thermopylae, you’ve missed your chance. The model for what we see playing out right now is much closer to Scipio systematically rolling up the armies of Carthage.

Why is that? Well, the sort of people that ruin everything turn out to be hilariously predictable. And that is absolutely disastrous for them when the people that have had enough of their antics go on the offensive by building replacements for the institutions that have been infiltrated and subverted over the past several decades.

Where the first book focused on the template of the standard SJW attack, this one covers how and why these parasites do what they do. And more importantly, it helps you get inside their heads so that you can understand their bafflingly alien motivations. (And yeah… if you think every other person that lost their scalps to these sorts of people had it coming because they weren’t half as reasonable, likable, goodhearted, and just plain nice as you… then you really need to read this.)

Find out more about the r and k selection stuff everybody’s talking about. Get the whole story on the socio-sexual hierarchy. Find out if you are a “gamma rabbit”– and what can be done about it. Even better, sit once again at the feel of Aristotle and find out more about the deceitful argument tactics that these people are already using to bully you.

But most importantly, find out more about what you can do to stand up to these people and turn them out of whatever it is you love that they are currently destroying. Because it’s happening right now. And judging by the decibels of the shrieks, the pushback is more demoralizing to them than anything they ever imagined.

And it’s just getting warmed up!

    Embrace the power of “AND”.

This is far, far from over. And whatever it is you think you want, I’m confident that you’re going to find it somewhere on the coming fields of battle.

There are going to be Thermopylae-class stands. There are going to be Scipio-like campaigns that raze enemy structures to the ground. Plus a whole bunch of stuff in-between – which might even include fighting alongside people you thought were your enemies.

It’s going to get weird, people. Fortunately, if you’re reading here, you’re well equipped to deal with wierd.

So cry Kek! And let slip the frogs of war…
