The Heroic Reader

The Legends of Men blog has an emphasis on masculinity whether on philosophy, fiction, fitness, popular culture etc. About two years ago, Jared and my paths crossed on social media and we struck up some conversations. Last year, I discussed sword and sorcery fiction with him on his blog.

Jared has started producing a new publication, The Heroic Reader. This is in classic small press size and format – 5.5 x 8.5 inches, saddle stapled, printed on card stock paper.

Vol 1, Issue 1 has great art by Sam Dillon for the cover. 20 pages in length.

Contents:

Beowulf and the Ideals of Northern European Warriors by Jared Trueheart

An Excerpt from The Legend of King Arthur and His Knights by Sir James Knowles with an introduction by Jared Trueheart.

Interior Art: Heurot by Pete Amarachee

Back Cover: Grendel by Jesus Rodriquez

Issue 2

Cover: Greek Warrior  by Sam Dillon

The Fury of Diomedes, Athena’s Chosen Warrior by Jared Trueheart

Barbarian Westerns by Morgan Holmes

The Tale of Sir Balin continued

Interior Art: The Combat of Diomedes by Jacques-Louis David

Back Cover Art: Barbarian Battle by Kory Fuhurman

“Barbarian Westerns” is about western writers who wrote some medieval and Renaissance historical adventure.

If so inclined, check these out. Go to legendsofmen.com and contact Jared about ordering these.
