RH1_256We are pleased to finally be able to announce the release of Volume I in our annual military science fiction anthology series, RIDING THE RED HORSE. The collection consists of 24 short stories and essays, which cover a wide range of history from the Battle of Leuctra to galaxy-spanning space empires in the far future.  The list of contributions is as follows:

    • Eric S. Raymond: “Sucker Punch” and “Battlefield Lasers”
    • William S. Lind: “Understanding 4th Generation Warfare”
    • Chris Kennedy: “Thieves in the Night”
    • Vox Day: “A Reliable Source”
    • James F. Dunnigan: “Murphy’s Law” and “Red Waves in the South China Sea”
    • Jerry Pournelle: “His Truth Goes Marching On” and “Simulating the Art of War”
    • Ken Burnside: “The Hot Equations: Thermodynamics and Military SF”
    • Christopher G. Nuttall: “A Piece of Cake”
    • Rolf Nelson: “Shakedown Cruise”
    • Steve Rzasa and Vox Day: “Tell it to the Dead”
    • Harry Kitchener: “The Limits of Intelligence”
    • Giuseppe Filotto: “Red Space”
    • John F. Carr and Wolfgang Diehr: “Galzar’s Hall”
    • Thomas Mays: “Within This Horizon”
    • Benjamin Chea: “War Crimes”
    • James Perry: “Make the Tigers Fight”
    • Brad Torgersen: “The General’s Guard”
    • Tedd Roberts: “They Also Serve”
    • Tom Kratman: “Learning to Ride the Red Horse: The Principles of War”
    • Steve Rzasa: Turncoat

The most recent Amazon review gives the book 5 stars and says: “this is absolutely the best penny per page you’ll spend this year for either entertainment or education. The nonfiction pieces discuss the gamut of operational tactics, principles, and technologies from Theban infantry deployments at Leuctra in 371 BC to laser defense deployments in the Persian Gulf certified operational December 10 2014; can’t swear that makes it the most historically comprehensive collection available, but it certainly is the most up to date as this is written on the 15th…. for a rollicking ride through adventure, history, and technology with military insight and scifi frisson, this is a worthy inheritor to the Pournelle editorial legacy, and recommended without hesitation for the next $4.99 you spend on your leisure!”

RIDING THE RED HORSE is 443 pages, sells for 4.99, and is available in EPUB or MOBI for Kindle format in the Castalia store as well as on Amazon.
